Colonial Fair at Bledsoe's Fort

Bledsoe’s Fort Colonial Fair

Bledsoe’s Fourth Annual “18th Century Colonial Fair” will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 6th, 7th & 8th, 2011 at Bledsoe’s Fort in Castalian Springs, TN, 9 miles East of Gallatin on Hwy. 25.

On behalf of the planning committee for the Fair, we would like to express our gratitude to those of you who did so much to help make this event possible last year. It takes quite a team working diligently for months . . . from the ones who put out signs, clean the park facilities, attend the ticket booth, assist with parking, cut wood, mow grass, show houses, greet people, assist with mass mail-outs, give of their money, provide lunch for participants and so much more . . . to you we say THANK YOU!

Because of the commitment of this team and the desire of BLHA to increase awareness of the awesome historic landmarks we have been blessed with in our community, it was decided that a little water would not dampen our spirits or drown our efforts to carry on and move forward in 2011.

We are very excited about this year’s Colonial Fair. We have more entertainment lined up for everyone of all ages. Once again historic re-enactors will recreate history and life near the site of the original Bledsoe’s Fort, the Rogan Cottage, and the Nathanial Parker Cabin.

The event will showcase many different facets of the Fort Site including a Longhunter’s camp, Military Camp, and Pioneer Encampments indicative of the 18th century period of 1750-1790 at Bledsoe. You will want to visit Traders Row for colonial arts and crafts, clothing,  pottery, guns, knives, toys, and much, much more!

For the ladies, we have added a Tea on Saturday afternoon and as always you may satisfy your hunger and thirst in Taverns featuring food from 18th Century Recipes,  such as Homemade Root Beer, Smoked Turkey Legs, Sconces, Sweets, Coffee, Bar-B-Q, and more.

Educational demonstrations, Colonial games, and a Pioneer Kids area always add to the experience.

Children are able to relive the past and get a “hands-on” history lesson as they step back in time and take a walk through the woods around the trace, enjoy a hay ride, or learn 18th century dances. We feel like this fair gives our visitors a unique opportunity to explore our heritage here in Middle Tennessee.

Each year we send out 20,000 student discount coupons to all the children in elementary and middle schools in Sumner County. Although anyone is welcome to attend Friday, we have specifically focused on students for that day and are so excited to say that we had well over 600 children visit us last year.

Bledsoe’s Fort Colonial Fair has no paid staff and is completely organized and financed through volunteers and donations. It is truly a labor of love and we would like to invite you, as a member of BLHA, to be a part of it, so if you wish to volunteer to help in some way by giving of your time and/or money, we will gladly welcome your contribution.

We hope you will take this opportunity to be a part of  History in the Making while re-creating our Past History.
