On September 20-21st,
2008, Bledsoe Fort Park hosted a Civil War Living History event
featuring Baxter’s and Brown’s Artillery Battery and the 46th
Tennessee Infantry Company K. The two day event gave the public
an opportunity to experience life as a Civil War soldier. There
were artillery and infantry demonstrations throughout each day,
with drills that eventually led to the inevitable
skirmish! One could hear the thunder of the cannons, smell the
smoke from the muskets and feel the thrill of battle. Women and
children took part in the living history event by demonstrating
other facets of life for this period. Ladies in period ware
demonstrated soap, candle making, cooking skills. It was a very
special time for the public to have an opportunity to step back
in history briefly.
This event was the idea of
a very special Gallatin High School student, Kendall Tuttle.
Wanting to do something to help after the tornado, she asked her
family who enjoy participating in Civil War History events if
they would be willing to have an event and donate the proceeds
to the Wynnewood Restoration Fund. They very generously donated
all proceeds to the fund.
The group has a
"practice" event scheduled For - TBA.
The actual reenactment will be held --TBA.
