Tornado Update - 2011

2010 has been a very busy year, and 2011 will be even busier. Since my last letter, the Vegetation and Construction Debris removal has been complete. I would like to take this time to personally thank Rickie G. “Pete” Lamon, Donnie Lamon, and Robin Newman for the extraordinary job they did in cleaning up the place. It looks great. The actual restoration phase began in August with Larry Wiecks Construction as the primary Contractor. Since August, workers have rebuilt the smoke house, the summer guest cottage, remodeled the restrooms, rebuilt the wooden fence in front of the site, and re-erected the logs on the second story of the Main House. Also workers have been busy re-laying the stone foundation, rebuilding the stone chimneys, remodeling both the bungalow and the Spencer Cabin. The rebuilding of Barn #2 has begun. The target date for substantial completion is September of this year. The most exciting thing is that after completion, all rooms and out buildings will be interpreted and open to the public for the firs time.

I would also like to thank some of the people involved in the physical work being done on the site, namely Don Johnson and the great guys with Triad, Louis Pasada and his stone masons, Vic Hood of Leatherwood and Brad Olds of Wix Construction. I feel that along with the above named individuals and the truly dedicated professionals with the State - Martha Akins, Jim Thompson, Tim Shelton, Patrick McIntyre, and Sam Smith, just to name a few - Wynnewood is in very good and capable hands. I look forward to 2011 as being the rebirth of our cherished and truly unique treasure.
